✴️CALL FOR PROPOSALS✴️
The purpose of APTA SC’s Annual Conference is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research and education. We will accept proposals through October 31, 2024. Speaking at the APTA SC Annual Conference is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm.
The 2025 Annual Conference is at MUSC with access to laboratory space and most equipment, including treatment tables, has been made available for the educational sessions. You are asked to seriously consider using this space and technology when developing your session. Sessions engaging students, laboratory workshops, and hands-on sessions will be given top consideration. Programming sessions are either 1 or 2 hours in length, with possible breaks.

❇️Lisa Saladin Lecture Award❇️
The Lisa Saladin Lecture was established in 2019 to honor the great achievements, innovation, and commitment to the profession as demonstrated by Lisa Saladin.
Nominees must have made distinguished contributions to the profession of physical therapy in the areas of administration, education, patient care, or research.
The Lisa Saladin Lecture Award recipient is asked to deliver a lecture at a general session during the APTA SC Annual Conference, March 22, 2025, in Charleston, SC.

5️⃣✖️5️⃣ PRESENTATIONS
We are continuing to use the electronic format called a 5x5 presentation instead of the traditional poster format. We will recognize one submission with the Outstanding Research Presentation Award announced at the business meeting. The winning 5x5 presentation will win up to two free conference registrations for the 2026 APTA-SC annual conference.
Presentations must be limited to 5 minutes maximum each for the presentation and no more than 5 content slides and 1 title slide.

Dr. Lisa Saladin PT, PhD, FAPTA was awarded the Marilyn Moffat Leadership Award. This award honors an individual held in high regard by their peers for distinguished leadership and significant contributions to the physical therapy profession and the association. Dr. Saladin has a proven record of service and volunteerism with the profession and the association and is a role model for many. Dr. Saladin is currently serving as Chief Delegate for APTA South Carolina. @saladinlisa

Dr. Kenneth Miller PT, DPT was awarded the Lucy Blair Service Award. This award honors a physical therapist member whose contributions to APTA are of exceptional quality. Dr. Miller has made substantive contributions to the work of the APTA Academy of Geriatrics and will be joining the APTA South Carolina delegation to serve in the House of Delegates beginning in 2025. @kenmpt

Recent advocacy win for APTA SC - The South Carolina Legislature has approved regulatory language to remove the requirement to receive a referral from a physician for continuation of PT services after 30 days. The regulatory change requires the patient to be referred to a licensed medical doctor or dentist after 30 days if treatment is not complete.

For purposes of S.C. Code Section 40-45-110(4), “referral” is defined as a writing communicating to the patient the importance of seeing the licensed medical doctor or dentist, a copy of which is placed in the patient’s treatment records
