APTA South Carolina is the leading professional organization for physical therapists in the state of South Carolina. Members enjoy the benefits of a federated system as a component of the American Physical Therapy Association. On January 4, 1952, APTA South Carolina, then titled The South Carolina Physical Therapy Association was incorporated in Columbia, South Carolina. Our original purpose was to proposed to: 1) To cooperate with APTA in science of medicine through an understanding and utilization of the functions and ailments and the maintenance of or restoration of health. 2) To promote professional interest in and understanding of physical therapy in South Carolina, and 3) To cooperate with the medical profession. As a state association, we have over 1200 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students that work together to support our strategic plan.
